D. Andrew Wardell

Dr. D. Andrew Wardell is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). He has more than 30 years’ experience working on natural resource management and capacity development issues in South-East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa countries. Prior to his current role, Dr. Wardell served as Research Director of CIFOR’s Forests and Governance Program (GOV), managing 35 scientists and a portfolio of more than 20 research projects in Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Prior to working for CIFOR, Dr. Wardell was Regional Director for the Clinton Climate Initiative-Forestry in the Asia-Pacific region. He previously worked as Counsellor-Development at the Royal Danish Embassy in Cambodia, as a researcher at the University of Copenhagen and successfully managed his own consulting company, Miljo ApS, based in Denmark, for more than a decade. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Agricultural Botany from the University of Reading, a Master of Science in Forestry and its relation to land use from the University of Oxford, and a Doctor of Philosophy exploring the legacy of British colonial rule on contemporary forest policy and practice in Ghana from the University of Copenhagen.
